Counseling Office Objectives for ALL Students

I CAN Statements:
I CAN understand what coursework prepares me for career and college ready curriculum for one, two and four year degrees.
I CAN develop a 4 year plan that leads to a fulfilling college and career ready curriculum.
I CAN complete a job or college application.
I CAN access Utah Futures and find information about jobs and education.
I CAN understand how to have healthy relationships and a satisfying life.


CURRICULUM
Information will be taught to students by counselors through College & Career Awareness classes, Utah Futures activities, assemblies and small groups. 

INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORLD OF WORK
* Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes and abilities to education planning and future career decision making. 
* Learn about the value of work to society and the connection of work to the achievement of personal goals. 
* Will recognize that completion of high school with essential academic and CTE coursework provides a wide range of substantial post-secondary and career options. 
*Students will have the tools to make informed career choices. 

PERSONALITY
* Students will start to assess and apply interest, personal skills, aptitudes and abilities to education planning and future career decisions. 

LIFE-LONG LEARNING
* Students will identify and practice skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span. 
* Students will be able to identify their learning styles and understand the best ways for them to learn. 
* Students will learn how to set SMART goals for now and in the future. 

SOCIAL
* Students will understand the importance of learning to use the Internet safely.
* Help students feel comfortable communicating with others about themselves in a positive way. 
* Understand the harmful effects of drug and alcohol abuse. 
* Be able to identify positive and productive life activities. 
* Help students recognize their self-worth can remain the same despite the traumas we go through or how inadequate we feel. 
* Help students recognize how they are different from other students and to discover how this awareness can help them define their unique qualities and develop self-esteem.
